We began Neurodiversity week with a whole school assembly, learning about how everyone is different and celebrating this. Some of our children loved sharing their own experiences of neurodiversity as we focussed on this in our PSHE lessons.
This week has also been packed full of wonderful curriculum enrichment experiences. Year 4 and Year 2 have enjoyed school trips to the Living Rainforest and Herbert Art Gallery respectively, deepening their knowledge of their geography and art projects. Year 5 have had some fantastic experiences this week – on Monday we welcomed the Space Dome into school and the awe and wonder on children’s faces was wonderful to see. Then on Thursday, our Sacred Heart Chef had some extra helpers as Year 5 joined her in the kitchen to make Jollof Rice as part of their learning in Design and Technology: the children were delighted to experience working in a real commercial kitchen. I hope they shared their delicious cooking with you at home!
The hall was also rocking on Thursday as the children who participate in Rocksteady lessons performed a concert for their parents! Playing as an ensemble is a really tricky skill and the children did an amazing job! It was especially lovely to see some of our younger pupils performing with so much confidence.
On Monday 24 March, we will begin a week of prayer and praise for our MAC patron Saint, Saint Oscar Romero, ending with adoration on Friday 28 March across all our schools. On Monday 24 March, Father Tony and Father Sebastian will celebrate Mass at 1.20pm at Sacred Heart Church. Key Stage 2 from Sacred Heart will be representing our school, alongside children from all the other Romero Schools. The Mass will be offered for the principal of Corpus Christi, Kevin Shakespeare, who sadly passed away recently. After communion, a monstrance will be presented to each school as a special commemoration of this time. All are welcome so please join us if you can.
Well done to 5L for their wonderful assembly this morning on the topic of Ramadan. It is so important for our children, as citizens of the world, that they learn about other faiths. This is also part of one of our British Values, which are taught in school: Respect and Tolerance of other faiths and cultures. The children did a great job of bringing this topic to life. Well done to all the children, who received a certificate this morning. A huge well done also to SH Swim Team, who won the swimming gala, the children will receive their medals in Monday morning’s assembly
Year 5 have had a very exciting morning exploring the space dome! Children had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Solar System and spent time learning about each of our eight planets and the probabilities of whether humans could ever survive life on each one of these planets. We also learnt about the upcoming Artemis III mission in 2027 which will feature the first ever woman to walk the moon! We have come away from the space dome feeling very inspired about learning more from our upcoming science unit on Space and Earth!
