Olympic Torch Relay
What an exciting week we’ve had! On Tuesday, all the children of Sacred Heart warmly welcomed the arrival of the Olympic torch (from the 1948 London Olympics) from the children at Aldermoor Farm. We all had a joyous afternoon celebrating as a school community. The afternoon was full of excitement, dancing and cheering. The torch is making its way around 54 schools in Coventry as part of the Flame of Friendship relay, to not only spread hope and friendship between the schools, but also to create a build of excitement around this year’s upcoming Olympic Games.
On Wednesday, all of the children then had the opportunity to hold the torch and find out lots of information about the history of the Olympic torch and the Olympic Games. We felt so honoured to be able to give our children this amazing opportunity. Wednesday afternoon then saw the school community come together again to celebrate sending the torch onto Stoke Heath Primary School, with the children selected to be part of the torch team. As part of the afternoon, we also had a guest speaker, Aaron Ashmore, Etch and Pin owner and children’s author, who spoke to us about the amazing work he does to promote Coventry’s history and left us with a key message of the importance of kindness.
Our children then went on their way carrying the torch to Stoke Heath Primary School where they were greeted with the warmest of welcomes by cheering and incredible confetti cannons. The torch will now continue its journey around the schools spreading hope and friendship. We look forward to attending the closing ceremony of the torch relay later in July. We celebrated this momentous occasion in true Sacred Heart style, making this event one to be remembered. Please see our Facebook page and the children’s P.E Padlet pages for more photos and videos of the event.
