Purpose of P.E
“Inspire a generation”
The purpose of Physical Education (P.E) is to inspire and motivate all children to be active in their lives, enabling them to become physically confident. The importance of living a healthy lifestyle and taking regular exercise needs be encouraged, alongside the teaching of key fundamental skills. Children should have opportunities to apply the skills they have learnt in competitive situations, either within teams or individually. As a result, key values, including team work, resilience, determination and fair play, can be taught and promoted in an active way.
We believe these key values are vital for pupils’ development because lots of these are transferable skills, which can be applied to wider life.
P.E at Sacred Heart
The purpose of P.E at Sacred Heart is to ensure pupils to enjoy P.E lessons and develop positive attitudes towards physical activity. We aim to make all lessons accessible by providing a range of different activities to challenge every pupil. As part of the 2012 Olympic legacy, we strongly encourage children to take part in sport outside of school and are looking to form links with local clubs within the community. Our Sports Premium fund is used primarily to employ a Sports Apprentice, who organises and delivers P.E lessons throughout the school. Also, the skills of sport specialists are utilised in a variety of activities including multi-skills and gymnastics. If you would like more information about Sports Premium, please follow this link…
We offer two hours of P.E on a weekly basis, with opportunities to participate both indoors and outdoors. This time enables children to be active for a sustained period and provides opportunities to learn and apply skills. All children are required to wear school P.E kit during these lessons.
