Safer Internet Day ~ Tuesday 6th February
2024 will be the 20th year of Safer Internet Day and will be celebrated in over 100 countries around the world. It will run under the slogan “Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online” and will promote the need to talk about life online. On Tuesday, all children at school will take part in this important day and have a focused lesson on being safe on the Internet. At school, we ensure that all the children are safe through our E-Safety policy; dedicated lessons as part of the computing curriculum and through raising awareness amongst pupils and parents
Please can I encourage you to spend time discussing with your child how to stay safe online and adding parent filters/monitoring to your child’s devices.
Following on from safer internet day, we had a number of children worryingly share that they have added strangers onto whatsapp, who they have met on games such a Roblox. This means that children have given out their personal phone numbers to strangers. It is important that children realise that people they meet online are not always who they seem – it is easy to give a fake name, age and gender.
We have completed additional work around this with our Year 3 and 4 children this week and the rest of the school will also have lessons around staying safe online over the next few weeks.
We have given children these key messages
